If you've never heard of Lady Gaga, then you had better start to take notice. Lady Gaga burst onto my radar with her performance of her hit single "Just Dance" on the Miss Universe paegeant. More than the infectious rhythm of her music, or her headstrong vocals, it was her screaming style that caught my attention. While the hosts, Jerry Springer and Mel B. pranced on the stage in formal evening wear, Lady Gaga strutted out in a crazy Vulcan meets samurai jacket complete with hood and painted on latex pants. Plus, with her platinum blunt cut hair and space-age makeup, she looked like a punk alien crash landed on Earth. I am totally loving her unique outerspace-meets-80s Jem Doll-rave princess aesthetic.
After doing some quick research on her, it seems that Lady Gaga is super into fashion and its impact on her performances. The music, the costumes, and the lyrics all mix together into a crazy experience designed for maximum effect. In fact, she is pretty well known in the NYC club scene for performing only in customized underwear! In the interviews and articles about her, it becomes apparent that she is no manufactured puppet. She may have gone to school with Nicky Hilton, but Gaga clawed her way to a record deal like anyone else and her style is entirely her own. If she manages to gain a foothold in the music industry, then a clothing line is sure to follow for this punky diva.
Watch out for her album "The Fame" this upcoming September!
