Get summer ready with ChickDowntown!

Summer is fast approaching and with it the urge to bring out that new summer wardrobe! Summer wardrobes are all about light, flowing materials, fun colors and prints, and accessories that have a warm, organic, feel. Luckily there are amazing fashions to be had, or just simply to be inspired by, at sites like ChickDowntown!

This retail site trawls the runways and boutiques for the best women's designer clothing deals and brings them straight to you. I haven't used the site myself (yet), but I do love many of the things that I see there. Here are my picks for summer wear via ChickDowntown:

Muted tones of peach, cream, and grey are all the rage this season. This billowy top by Alice + Olivia is perfect to highlight your neck and minimize your waist. Made of silk and satin, this top will feel like a dream against your skin.

If you've been working on those gams and want to draw some attention to them for the big 'reveal', then definitely pick up these gorgeous Zanotti sandals! These luxe to the max sandals feature large malachite stones and beads in a lovely dark forest green color, and teal Swarovski crystals in a copper setting. The contrast of green and orange is simply striking, plus the T shape of the sandals elongates your feet. Finally, the 4.5" heel will definitely make your calf muscles stand out! I drool.

Florals are another huge trend this season and this gathered floral skirt certainly causes me to give a mental check off my summer shopping list. The teal and purple colors evoke a certain 80s vibe, but the slight tulip silhouette makes it all modern.

Hitting on yet another trend this season, is this statement necklace by Sheila Fajl. Gold is sometimes mistaken as being flashy and gauche, but I believe that it is really the epitome of grace and elegance - it's all in how you wear it. The matte finish of this necklace gives it an understated sophistication, while the multiple ring design is edgy and modern. See, totally different from how that greasy guy in the 70s mega-collar shirt wears his cheap gold chain!

Last, but not least, is this demure color block dress from Plastic Island. The color blocking in this dress will elongate your torso and the empire waist will conceal a tummy engorged with summer BBQ food. This dress is composed of taupe charmeuse and white and navy jersey, making it breathable for hot summer nights. The colors are sophisticated and strong, while the smocking gives it a girlish and youthful feel.

I hope you enjoyed these picks from ChickDowntown and that they've inspired you to reinvigorate your summer wardrobe! Now as a reward for being a Being High Maintenance, not Bitchy reader, you've got a chance to win some designer fashion yourself! ChickDowntown has kindly offered to give one Being High Maintenance, not Bitchy reader the prize of winning these super cute and fun Jules Smith Charm School Jelly bracelets! Hey
I thought you ought to know there's been some complaints and bad experiences with chickdowntown
I haven't purchased from the site but was considering a few things (I was also lured into the discounted prices) but google around and you'll find some stories that could raise enough questionable eyebrows.

The Budget Babe said...

I love all your picks, they'd add up to the perfect summer wardrobe. And you're totally right about gold, it's all in how you wear it!

MizzJ said...

@Eliane: Thanks for the info! I had done some searching to see if there were any complaints before I wrote the article - could you forward me the stories you found? I hope it's nothing too major since the site seems pretty well known, I even saw it mentioned in British Vogue the other day!

mmm.. that elizabeth & james skirt... is perfection.

I love the alice + olivia top, so dreamy.

Chickdowntown has great pieces. PS.I love all of your choices. ESspecially that floral skirt.

Eliane said...

Hey MizzJ
I found the complaints on blogs that two blogs that I read regularly along with yours

http://sofysophia.blogspot.com/2009/02/treasured-jewel.html

http://capitolhillstyle.wordpress.com/2009/01/22/chickdowntown-terrible-i-say/

They're both really good blogs and I'd suggest reading some of their other posts...

MizzJ said...

@Eliane: Thank you so much for taking the time to track these posts down. I had no idea of this! In the Capitol Hill Post, Amy Reed the owner of ChickDowntown herself left a comment pledging to reform their customer service. That post was done in Jan. 2009. Here are some links for everyone regarding ChickDowntown:

http://pittsburgh.e-asp.net/NIS4/bbbreportaccbuscontent.asp?ID=1&ComID=0141000014003605#

http://www.complaintsboard.com/complaints/chickdowntown-c107686.html

According to complaints board, the last complaint was last Oct, so I invite any more recent purchasers to let us know if indeed Amy did reform her company's service level or not?? I sincerely hope so!

As for the winner of this contest, I will personally harass ChickDowntown FOREVER if they do not send the prize out in a timely manner!!
