Lust of the Week: Charlotte Russe Blurred Watercolor Skirt

On an episode of What Not to Wear, host Stacey London berated the poor "contestant" for her penchant for wearing wildly patterned skirts and pants, but hold on a moment here Stacey - is wearing colorful bottoms all so bad? Sure, there are many many ways to go very very wrong with patterned and colorful bottoms, but it's not all bad. As always, it's all in how you work it. Enter example A, this watercolor skirt by Charlotte Russe; this is definitely an eye-popper of a skirt with its very unique watercolor design. If anything, this skirt looks like a fancy oil slick, but then again I for one have noticed that sometimes oil slicks can have some very intriguing colors! What makes this skirt work is the neutral, soothing, tones of blues; everyone likes blues, so this is a safe color to play around with in such an original way. Paired with a slim, solid colored top, this skirt is sophisticated, modern, and maybe something even Ms. London could approve of.

I like to regard What Not to Wear with a Pirates of the Caribbean sort of philosophy: they're not really set rules so much as guidelines. That show is like How To Dress Yourself 101 for the sartorially challenged and people who rarely think about their appearance. That being said, I think if you know the rules already you can have as much fun as you want breaking them. ;-)

Love the skirt!

I love Charlotte Russe. Plus, people should wear whatever they want. Wait, I have to add an additional clause. Anything that fits their body. =)

I totally agree with Lisa: first learn all the rules... then break em. And break em good!

Lisa seriously couldn't have come up with a better analogy. Ms. London's advice certainly should just be regarded as guidelines....that being said, there are times that I think Ms. London breaks her own 'guidelines' and does so in a bad way.

This skirt is lovely!

Please tell me you're going to buy that skirt, you need it!!

Thanks for your comment, I really loved reading what you had to say. I couldn't agree more about us being more openly available to communicate yet lonelier than ever. And it's true, only time will tell whether or not you (and myself included) will be able to trust one human enough to last a life time.

cheers from seattle,

Glad you liked it un. It gave me a definate WOWOWOWOWOW factor too! lol.

I really dislike how she appears to have conducted herself here. Telling a poor woman what NOT to wear. I agree with Lisa best to suggest some guidelines to follow instead. I avn't seen te sow myself so I'll leave my comment tere because I can feel myself slowly becoming more irate! haha

xx as always :P

I like the skirt and it does remind me of an oil spill, it also reminds me of tie dye. Either way it's cute and blue is in this year. I wouldn't pay to much attention to Stacy, who wants to walk around looking like everyone else anyway?

Pair this with some black, grey or white and some silver jewelry and you will have everyone asking where you bought the outfit :-)

Happy TGIF!!

@Lisa: great analogy! I so agree.

@Dana: She is isn't she, but that's why we watch her!

@Deka: No need to apologize, I welcome all opinions :)

@Hanh: Naw as much as I like it, I probably won't as I'm now on a shopping ban until July - I've bought way too many things lately haha

@DesignerShoes: good tips!

@Kokostiletto: Ooh I know eh, that would be awesome! Can't wait for F21 to show up!

This skirt reminds me a lot of the print Thread Social was using http://www.net-a-porter.com/product/40618 ... heck that's probably where they got the idea but it's still a pretty skirt!

@Anon: ohh yeah I do see the resemblance, although I think I still prefer the CR one as it has softer edges. Thx for sharing this find!
