Winner of the ChickDowntown contest and the dilemma of 2 palettes

As a person who loves makeup, and who also harbours a rather fierce fondness for an excellent deal (being Chinese after all), it only makes logical sense to buy makeup in bulk. I wear some sort of makeup everyday and it's not simply because I feel like I "need" to, (as I will go run out to the local grocer in nothing but a slick of lip balm) but more because I really enjoy just putting it on and looking pretty! If I'm feeling like the walking dead, a little blush and mascara instantly perks me up.

Today I read this neat everyday FOTD (Face of the day) tutorial from I am Style-ish, one of my recommended daily reads. Tiffany always looks chic and put-together, from her perfectly coiffed hair, to her flawless makeup. In her first makeup tutorial, she features two amazing palettes from Coastal Scents. Coastal Scents is a Florida Internet-based cosmetics company which sells a full line of makeup, soaps, brushes, and aromatherapy oils. The two palettes in Tiffany's post featured a beautiful range of neutral tones designed to enhance one's natural color and to play up your eyes:

After reading it though, I was left with a horrible dilemma: I was in love with both these palettes, but which to purchase? The first palette featured a full range of colors from pale bone to dark smoke, perfect for everything from highlighting to use as a smokey eyeliner; however palette two featured a row of blush colors. I am leaning more towards palette one, as I already own several blush compacts and the blush colors in palette two aren't all complementary to my skin tone, but a palette with two products (shadow + blush) seems a better deal? Help me readers!

In other news, it is finally time to announce the winner of the Chickdowntown contest!!! Congratulations Mooq!

Do the first palette! I find that when I buy eyeshadow palettes and combo palettes, I never use all the blush colors-- they don't work with all skintones, despite what their descriptions may suggest!

Those palettes are at such a reasonable price point!

Both palettes are a good deal and have a lot of product. But does one person really need that many neutral shades of eyeshadow? Or that much blush? I don't mean this in a negative way; it's just that, for me, a good deal on a makeup palette is only good if I like and can use EVERY SINGLE COLOUR in the palette. If it were me I'm sure I'd end up using the same 2 or 3 shades in the neutral palette until they run out, or one shade of blush only. :P

Anyhoo, go for #1. I can see you getting more use out of it, plus you already have blush that flatters your skin tone.

Ooh I'd say go for the eyeshadow palette, especially since you already have several blushes. But now I'm about to buy one myself! =P

So exciting! (I e-mailed you, BTW)

I would also have to vote for the first palette - the colours just seem more appealing. (That said, I'm a makeup mishap and almost never wear much, so I am not to be trusted in these matters.)

Good job Mo, she won the dress giveaway on my blog last month too! :-)

I love the colours in the second palette but don't really like the majority of the blush shades! I don't think I'd ever use that many eye shadows. I usually find myself using 3, possibly 4 in any given palette.

thanks for mentioning my blog! :)

So I love both palettes, but if I had to choose one, I would get the neutral palette. It is great for everyday use and all the colors are beautiful. the second palette is only great if you are adventurous with make up. I like to use that palette when I really want my eye make up to show off. It's great for evening looks!

contrary to your other readers, I do in fact use all the colors. I guess you just have to be a make up girl to understand the fact that you can do so many different looks with the entire palette. I would be a much different person if I only used the same 3 colors every day. :)

@Tiffany: I so agree! That's like saying you only need one black shirt because they're all the same.

love tiffany's blog!

I would go with the eye pallette, because I am really picky about my blushes...

congratulations to the winner!

i also follow Tiffany from i am stylish and saw both palettes and i actually bought the first one and it arrived today (yay!). at first i was torn between the two but i figured that i have enough blush so why not get a palette with a wide range of colors instead? needless to say it was a great buy, i love all the colors and all the combinations you can make. good luck on your buy!
