Ladies get them heels on: the boys are watching

Silk scarf: from Thailand
Navy shirt: Plum
Wool coat: Armani Exchange
Skirt: Simons
Gloves: Aldo
Tights: H&M
Kneesocks: Nine West?
Boots: Aldo

I don't usually wear outerwear in my outfit posts, but if you were passing me by on the street during a cold winter morning, this is what I would be wearing as I hustle my way down the street. I love the look of these elbow-length gloves, but you do have to be wearing a certain style of outfit for the gloves to match the rest of the outfit. One tip for winter layering is to wear silk. This silk scarf feels very thin, but is actually quite warm!

If you're wondering about this post title, it's because I have a guest post today from FL (or cardboardlove - he couldn't decide on a pseudonym). cardboardlove is quite the smooth talker and a musician to boot! The first thing this ladies man notices about a woman though, isn't the usual answer you would think men to give. No, it's not the boobs, or the face, or the ass, so sorry Heidi, you just made yourself into a Bratz doll for nothing. What this man notices first is the shoes! Yes, shoes. In fact, I've heard this response from other men as well, so if you think those Loubies are only appreciated by those with breasts, then read on reader, because as cardboardlove will tell you - it's all about the feet.

9:06 am. I walk down Robson as I do every weekday morning on my way to work. I throw sweeping scans of all the women as they pass by – because as any sensible straight man living in this city knows, there are some world-class super hotties in Vancouver. One woman makes brief eye contact with me and I take it as approval to judge her. My eyes immediately wander down to her… shoes. Chuck Taylor Classics with dragging laces. Hmm. Well if she isn’t a full on lesbian, at the very least she’s bi-curious when drunk. I catch the woman next to her. Uggs. Seriously, will that trend ever die? I didn’t realize that so many women were that self-conscious about how fat their ankles were. In the distance I see flats with a cute little bow. OK now we’re getting somewhere. A bit of bounce to her but still lacks the confidence to handle too much attention. As I walk on, I’m nearly blinded by a blurry streak of fluorescent coloured rain boots. Yea, yea, we get it, you’re a creative spirit and the colour of your boots match the butterfly you have tattooed on your back – Drew Barrymore would be proud. Suddenly, a clicking echo captures my attention. All other sounds drown out as each click gets louder and louder. My morning is complete - stilettos have entered my day. I can tell by the sharp, high, tone of the clicking that they are at least 5 inches. The rhythmic, nimble pace lets the world know she has grace, finesse, and a confidence no one would fuck with – at least not while she’s in her Ferragamo’s. She walks by me and I quickly glance up at her eyes in a desperate attempt to catch eye contact. She obliges but immediately shifts down to my feet. She smirks, looks ahead and keeps walking by. I look down at my Velcro Pony’s and think, “Damn, I should have worn my Aldo’s today.”

So true.. To me, it is also much more interesting to see what the ladies out there are wearing than whay they actually look like. Probably cuz I'm married, and I'm more just looking for things I might like to get for my wife.

I wonder how many other guys out there aren't really checking out the girls they see, so much as the clothing they are wearing. :P
Nice post! :)

Love this entry.. had fun reading it! I've been too lazy to wear heels the past couple weeks so I've just been wearing flat boots everyday.

Cute story! But honestly, I cant wear heels in Canadian icy winters...too painful to think of me falling in those. I love your outerwear, especially the high collar!

Haha I like your story. Soon you won't be able to look at people when the olympics roll in! DT will be like sardines!!! Cute outfit - you look ready to walk around Vancouver!

haha the other day I was thinking I needed more stylish shoes.

RE: olympic price gauge. yeah around yaletown, some of the restaurants are offering an 'olympic' price and local price. I would feel cheap and silly if I have to keep asking for the local price at a place.

Love the story... I enjoyed reading it.

And of course, even if you're wearing outerwear, you still are so fabulous! xoxo

Gosh I love your outfit, even if it's outerwear.

Cool post, but so true. I am always looking at girls' shoes too. Watching other girls give me so many ideas for the next shopping trip.

Well, I know plenty of girls who judge guys by their shoes, so I'm not surprised guys will notice footwear as well. Although to be honest, unless you have a bit of a shoe fetish (llike cardboardlove obviously has ;-), men tend to notice an entire outfit and a woman's poise... not just her shoes. I think it's no secret that men love high heels, but I've seen plenty of guys (my man included) who laugh and smirk at girls who obviously struggle to walk in them. Self-confidence is key and it's not something you can get by wearing Loubies or a skin tight dress (or whatever the hell Heidi is doing to her body + face).

Love your outfit by the way! The wool jacket combined with the elbow length gloves are perfect!

hey girl, i love those long gloves. they're usually worn as a dressier piece but you've rocked them out as a really edgy piece with that high collared coat. love it. and thanks for the suggestion of doing a makeup tutorial, i'll consider doing one in the near future : )

ps. i would love for you to enter my giveaway :)

super cute coat and long gloves. I have a friend who totally rocks the long leather gloves and I always admire how glamorous and classy they look. only thing is, this winter hasn't really been warm enough for me to wear much gloves.

Yes, i can totally see the appeal of high heels clicking on the pavement to a man - they accentuate the legs and make the posture instantly better. But it's just sooo impractical to wear them outside during a Vancouver winter! also the streets of Yaletown are full of crackly cobblestone dangers that can snap a heel in an instant. I tend to save my heels for inside the office. Hence my 5 pairs of shoes/boots typically under my desk at work.

hey do you wake board? that's so awesome!!

Can't wait to party with you @ Sam Roberts during the games - hells ya!

Shoes are one of the first things I notice about a person. I know that's not the best thing; but I can't help it!! :)

Cute coat! I wear very inexpensive and boring shoes (but should probably rethink that going forward) and splurge on my coats. Love the structure of your coat.
