Girlish Fun with Conversation Pieces

Every so often, I can believe that there is such a thing as love at first sight. You know, that quivering feeling in your knees, that sudden dry mouth from nervousness, the way your hands shake slightly from excitement... if I could see my eyeballs, I'm sure they would be dilated as well! What is it that has got me flushing like a new bride? Why, a new discovery on the online retailer scene, Conversation Pieces!

Conversation Pieces began 8 years ago when creator Audrey Ng moved from Singapore to LA out of a love for indie design and a desire to connect others of like minds. Every piece on the site was handpicked for quality and price from independent designers across America and the globe. If you love sites like Etsy, then you will love Conversation Pieces because all the pieces have that whimsical and girlish, handcrafted appeal. The prices are quite affordable with most items ranging below $100 and shipping is $10 INTERNATIONAL.

To make this site even more tempting, Conversation Pieces is currently having an "Around the world in 5 weeks" promotion where each week a different country will receive FREE shipping! This week, May 30 till June 5 is Canada's chance to get free shipping! I for one am psyched for this and here are just a few of the items I am currently lusting to purchase:

Under the stars dress, $34

Ring around the roses necklace, $24

You're so tweet necklace, $24 (really want this one!)

Will you be making the virtual trek to Conversation Pieces this week Canada?

T-post: the first wearable magazine

The Internet is a mecca for all things quirky, cool, and fun. You can find just about anything on there and it will always be unique. For fashion lovers, this means the ability to find the coolest, edgiest, items that nobody else will be able to cop. Enter T-post, the world's first wearable magazine.

Playing on the trend for cool-hunting and merging it with the world of art and alternative journalism, T-post is the first magazine that's printed entirely on cloth, instead of paper. You can subscribe to T-post just like any other magazine, and every month a neatly packaged issue will arrive at your doorstep.

Each issue features a news story and accompanying interpretive art by a different artist and writer each month. T-post strives to spread stories that make you think, or question the status quo, using art and its unique medium to fire conversation. T-post is also environmentally friendly - each issues is only reproduced to the exact number of subscribers, is made using organic cotton tees from American Apparel, and even the printer and ink are environmentally friendly!

Recently T-post sent me a free copy of their last issue, and I must say I love the idea and quality of the shirts! It was just the right size and definitely unique compared to most graphic tees out there. The only downside was that you can't really wear the shirt inside-out to display the news article, as the seams would show. Overall though, it's a really cool idea and would make a great gift to your favourite graphic-tee lover!

Lust of the Week: Elizabeth & James Sophie Dress

This spring go for ruffles and feminine prettiness with a watercolor floral dress. Unlike other floral patterns, a watercolor pattern is softer and less reminiscent of either big Laura Ashley blooms, or tiny 90s grunge baby dolls. The side-long ruffle is perfect for summer and its vertical line elongates the body. The only thing not so perfect about this dress? The smirky smile on that model.

Heart Shaped Box

Striped top: Zara
Skirt: Winners
Necklace: H&M
Tights: Urban Outfitters
Booties: Spring

Mr. Artist always laughs at me for liking what can be described as "angry music", but when I say that angry music makes me happy, I'm quite serious! There is something about a song that is raw, tortured, and emotional that is just as moving as a song that has a good beat and Nirvana definitely fits that bill. They are epic. Time to educate yourself.

Much has been said to interpret what the lyrics of Heart Shaped Box means, and nobody but Kurt can say for sure. To me, the song seems to a lament to the loss of innocence and the blame for that is on some mystery woman (popular opinion is Courtney Love). This woman is referred to sarcastically almost, as "Your Highness" and she is someone who he used to think was pure and who he still wishes he could change, but you can't change some people and thus, his sadness. He is trapped in her darkness as tightly as he was trapped with her when he thought she was perfect. Pretty deep huh? I love how the lyrics make you think, like poetry! What's your take on this song?

She eyes me like a pisces when I am weak
I've been locked inside your Heart Shaped box for a weeks
I've been drawn into your magnet tar pit trap
I wish I could eat your cancer when you turn black

Hey!
Wait!
I've got a new complaint
Forever in debt to your priceless advice
hey
wait
I've got a new complaint
Forever in debt to your priceless advice
Hey!
Wait!
I've got a new complaint
Forever in debt to your priceless advice

...your advice

Meat-eating orchids forgive no one just yet
Cut myself on Angel Hair and babys breath
Broken hymen of your highness I'm left black
Throw down your umbilical noose so I can climb right back

*chorus*

She has me like a pisces when I am weak
I've been locked inside your Heart-Shaped box for weeks
I've been drawn into your magnet tar pit trap
I wish I could Eat your cancer when you turn black

*chorus repeats till end*

Getting to know...Fox, Fluevog & Friends: part 2

Me in front of the museum

Monday I gave you my interview with John Fluevog, the man behind Fluevog shoes. You can read my interview with him here. While I was checking out the rest of the Fox, Fluevog & Friends exhibit, I also was lucky enough to get to meet Peter Fox, who was John's partner in Fluevog for many years and was the main designer behind many of Fluevog Shoes' most beautiful designs.

designed by Peter Fox c. 1980

While John Fluevog reminded me of a surfer-hippie goes urban sophisticate, Peter Fox reminded me more of a perfectly dapper English gentleman. When we met, Peter was dressed impeccably in a dark suit jacket and even had a pocket scarf to matched his clipped London accent. His manner was gracious and kindly, and he even took the time to show me around personally to some of his more favourite designs.

The "Adult Toddler" shoe, designed by Peter Fox for Peter Fox Shoes, 1994

John and Peter first met when John was only 14 and the story of how they met is an example of how random life can be. One day long ago, Peter was offered a ride home from the local Lutheran church by a man who happened to own a Jaguar. The two men hit it off when Peter admired the Jaguar owner's walnut dashboard. In a twist of fate, the Jaguar owner turned out to be John's father and John began working for Peter first as a babysitter of Peter's children, and then later in Peter's shoe store. The rest they say, is history.

Leather tooling dies, c. 1970

Remembering what John had mentioned about saying we should always question why we do things, I asked Peter why he designed shoes. Peter paused for a long moment, repeating the question to himself out loud as he thought. "Why do you do anything?" he asked me, "if something comes to mind [then] just do it!" When I pressed him for more details, Peter elaborated that it was really all just following through with an idea. You've got to just keep working at it basically, he went on, and force your mind to approach challenges and to think beyond what you're used to. To illustrate his point in action, Peter directed me to an exhibit featuring what happened to be his favourite creation: a satin pump that he said was inspired by the stained glass windows of a church.

Stained glass style pump, designed by Peter Fox for Peter Fox Shoes, 1995

When Peter was first inspired by the light pouring through the stained glass windows, he was blocked at first because at the time there was no way to produce such a shoe. Satin was very difficult to work with and prone to fraying, so eventually he had to work with the manufacturers to design a computer program that would cut the design to his parameters. The entire process was challenging and consuming, but the end result: stunning.

Design and sketch by Peter Fox

What struck me from this story and the others that John and Peter told me about their life, was that shoe design really was an art. I gained a new perspective on how creative fashion design is and the pain-staking work and determination required to create something beautiful and functional. As well, both John and Peter gave me some life lessons on life and following your dreams, that will always stay with me: beauty is everywhere, always remember the why, and be thankful.

You can view the Fox, Fluevog & Friends exhibit all summer long at the Museum of Vancouver! It is certainly worth a visit. I'd also like to thank Amanda, Genny, Stephen, John and Peter for their time!

Lust of the Week: Marciano Deana drape pocket tee

Isn't this shirt just the perfect mix of casual and glamour? I am positively lusting over the proportions of this shirt and how soft the knit looks. Plus that perfect little touch of embellishment on the pocket is what really elevates this sweater from just sweet, to va-voom! The light heather color is thoroughly modern, whereas the black just doesn't cut it beyond boring. Here is a much-needed PSA in case you've been living in the middle of the Earth and didn't know this already: grey is the new black ladies!

iWriteAboutMe.com: Giant Robot Invades Vancouver!

Here's another great event happening this THURSDAY in Vancouver!! On the side, I work as the event coordinator for iWriteAboutMe, a monthly series of workshops about writing on the web, featuring the hottest diverse voices out there making it big online. Past speakers have included writers, editors, and film directors around the world, such as Phil Yu of Angry Asian Man! This month, we are featuring Eric Nakamura and Martin Wong, creators of Giant Robot Magazine. GR is a key figure in the Asian American media scene, having been the first to come out with a print magazine based entirely on Asian American pop culture. Come out to this electric event as we talk live with them via broadband at the Museum of Vancouver. Here's some more details care of Schema Magazine:

Schema Magazine and Museum of Vancouver (MOV) are super excited to present the next featured speakers for the 5th iWriteAboutMe workshop, Asian American pop culture pioneers Eric Nakamura and Martin Wong, creators of the always fresh Giant Robot magazine!

Thursday May 20, 2010
6:30-8:00 PM | Museum of Vancouver (MOV) |
1100 Chestnut Street, Vancouver, B.C.

This is a FREE event and everyone is welcome. RSVP required as seating is limited. Please visit NA@AP Vancouver to reserve a seat. More on Facebook.

These icons of Asian American media will be joining us live via broadband from 6:30pm-8:00pm at the MOV for an exclusive interview about the past, present, and future of Giant Robot, Asian American pop culture, and more! (Look for directions below)

Eric and Martin took on their first issues of GR with a die hard DIY attitude, probably stemming from their anarchic punk aesthetic. In the 90s that sure took some hands-on work, and not just hands on a keyboard, with a 'publish' button. It took photocopying. A lot.

Now Giant Robot has evolved into a multimedia enterprise with its own line of products and a webzine a-bloom with input from a crowd of techno-savvy, tongue-in-cheeky bloggers. It has even spawned "Robot babies" with stores starting from its birthplace in California and spreading all the way to New York City's East Village. GR was 50 issues old in 2007 but has aged well and can now boast covers in bold colour, graced by street art, anime characters and cinema stills.

63 issues later, GR continues to be that "small, punk-minded magazine" that showcases the fun, quirky and just-plain-weird side of Asian American culture. Not to mention, it has inspired many prolific Asian American voices, including previous iWriteAboutMe.com speakers, Phil Yu, creator of the super-blog AngryAsianMan.com and Jen and Diana of the hilarious and ever-popular blog Disgrasian.com.

GR has set itself apart from all magazines out there today, proving that there will always be a demand for Asian American content and the more the attitude, the better.

Tell us, how can you say no to a FREE event that gives you the chance to listen to these inspiring icons speak, ask questions and learn about what could inspire YOU to make a difference as well?

Check out the event on Facebook. Space is limited! Please RSVP with NA@AP Vancouver.

Sponsored by The Laurier Institution and Bing Thom Architects.

Hope to see you there!

Getting to know... Fox, Fluevog & Friends: part 1

Last Thursday I got the opportunity to check out the Museum of Vancouver’s latest exhibit, Fox, Fluevog & Friends. The 4 months long exhibit features a retrospective on the past 40 years of designers John Fluevog, Peter Fox, and Ken Rice’s work within Vancouver fashion institution, Fluevog Shoes.

Fluevogs, as they’re commonly referred to, are known for their revolutionary and quirky designs and after meeting the men behind the soles, I can see why. John Fluevog, with his wavy sandy-blond hair and tanned face, has the look of someone who has lived a full life and the things he told me that Thursday morning as we sat and chatted on a museum bench, were full of wisdom.Oh yeah, and he also loves Phnom Penh’s chicken wings!

The first thing I had to ask was how he got into design, as from what I’d learned from him on Google, he was a pretty quirky guy! John laughed and said well, he was really into it for the money. Being someone who just “fell into it” he knew he had to make a success out of it and so that’s what he did. Though initially it sounds quite mercenary, make no mistake - John is still an artist. When asked about his influences, John waved his hands in the air and simply said that “beauty just pops up,” and that as an artist you had to “just go do it.” John is also known for his love of cars, to the point where an admirer has even said that he thinks of cars when designing shoes, and to this John did admit to, saying, “Cars are a bit like shoes,” and went on to describe how a car’s sculptural shape and the way a car is like an intersection of function and form, is all quite similar to a shoe. It was an interesting perspective that I’d never thought of before, and just the first of several statements the designer said that opened my mind about design and life.

Stained glass effect platform boots, c. 1973 designed by Peter Fox

The biggest thing that struck me about John was his laidback demeanour and individualism. John is a man of his own path and when I asked him if he pays attention to other designers, he flatly stated no. In fact, John says, the biggest mistake that other upcoming designers can do is to try to follow what other designers are doing, or even worse, trends. Chasing trends is like “chasing the bar of soap” as John puts it – you’ll never be able to get your hands on it if you try. What would be more productive he says, is to always ask, “What’s your reason for existence?” This design philosophy is quite evident in John’s work. Fluevogs don’t resemble any other shoe out there, with their sculptural patterns and heels and the spiritual messages stamped onto every sole. Even the marketing paraphernalia used by Fluevog has a unique twist with its hand-printed retro comic pamphlets and ads made entirely of limericks.

Having toured around the exhibit and seen how Fluevog has evolved over the years, I asked John what his favourite moments were. “The first 10 years,” John said after some thought and with a tinge of wistfulness. It was the 60s then, and John and his fellows were full of youthful optimism, idealism, and free love. The future for Fluevog seems just as bright as then, with the company spreading even more internationally while still remaining as independent as ever. When I asked John what he wanted his lasting legacy to be, I was expecting him to muse about making his company a household name, or to see his shoes being sold in X number of countries, but I should have known that this former hippie, always visionary, would have a different type of answer to give. It was a simple answer actually, more of a life philosophy than a statement. It was something he said he learned from his mother and it was an ideal we could both agree upon and which everyone at some point, forgets to do. It was only three words: “be more thankful.”

As the last part of our interview, I gave John a “lightening round” of fun, random questions; here are some of his answers!

MizzJ: Are you a Canucks fan?
JF: No

MizzJ: Cats or dogs?
JF: (After much pondering) Depends on the day. Today is a cat moment.

MizzJ: What’s the question you get asked the most?
JF: How do you come up with your designs?

MizzJ: What’s the question you would rather they ask?
JF: Why do I do what I do?

MizzJ: Favourite place to eat in Vancouver?
JF: Boneta and Bao Bao.

MizzJ: What do you think about Justin Bieber?
JF: Who?

Well, I hope you enjoyed my interview with John Fluevog! You can check out more of his designs at the official Fluevog website, or at his exhibit at the Museum of Vancouver all summer. I highly recommend the exhibit as it is simply beautiful! Check back all this week for part 2 of my interview with the "fox" behind Fox, Fluevog & Friends designer, Peter Fox.

Colour of Beauty Screening + Fox, Fluevog & Friends

Fashion and diversity are two passions of mine that I hold dear to my heart and when the two collide together, well then, I am even more moved to express myself! When I saw the short documentary, Colour of Beauty, a couple months ago, I went through a whole spectrum of emotions: outrage at the rampant discrimination, cynicism over change, compassion for model Renee Thompson's hardships, and finally hope as I was inspired by her continual fight for change. Ghandi once said "Be the change you want to see in the world" and Renee, the focus of the film, is certainly doing that. If we want to see change, then we have to change ourselves and encourage others to be better and more aware of the world.

This coming Sunday, May. 16, Schema Magazine, in partnership with The National Film Board of Canada and the Museum of Vancouver, is proud to present the Vancouver premiere of Colour of Beauty. Come watch this stunning film at this free event and participate in the panel discussion afterwards featuring industry insiders like Olivia Cheng (actress/producer/writer), JJ Lee (The Vancouver Sun, CBC Radio), and Wendy Chen (media literacy specialist).

There's still time to RSVP: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=118356938197991

You can also check out an interview with Dr. Elizabeth St. Philip, the director of Colour of Beauty, here.

Sunday's special event is associated with the new fashion related exhibit at the Museum of Vancouver: Fox, Fluevog & Friends:

Celebrating 40 years of creativity and off-the-beaten-path style, this exhibit is a retrospective of the life work of Vancouver shoe designers John Fluevog, Peter Fox, and Ken Rice. It explores the evolution of Fluevog Shoes from its humble, hippie beginnings, to its current state as an international cult-shoe hit.

I was fortunate enough to get a sneak preview of this amazing exhibit yesterday, as well as a chance to meet with the men behind Fluevog: John Fluevog and Peter Fox. Thanks so much to John and Peter for answering my questions, and to Amanda and Genny at MOV for inviting me! You can read up on this two-part interview series starting Monday!

Hope to see you all this weekend!

Take for instance this fabulously quirky necklace. Featuring multiple chains of gold and black, this heavily adorned necklace is weighed down by multiple charms in the shape of clocks! I have an angel on my shoulder but a devil in my hand

Sweater: gift
Skirt: Aritzia
Tights: H&M
Thigh-highs: unknown
Shoes: Spring

The weather is finally starting to shine here - has spring/summer finally sprung?? This past weekend I joined 50,000+ other runners in the annual Sun Run event through the streets of downtown Vancouver. I love living here when the sun is shining. What could be better on a sunny afternoon than running in the warm sun beside the ocean? I highly doubt I could live happily away from the coast and its clean ocean air. In this outfit is my first attempt at layering socks and sandals, sort of. I kinda like how it gives an edgy twist to this otherwise modest outfit. What you may not be able to pick out on this sweater are the cute little rhinestone buttons on the sleeves. Mr. Artist's mom actually bought me this sweater from a local department store and I felt a little guilty that my arms were too big to do up the buttons! Did the buttons not do up because of my uber toned arms, or my uber fatty triceps? Hmm, sometimes ignorance is bliss.

Also I finally got around to posting another vlog. Check out episode 2: Open a Book! below and subscribe to my Youtube channel!

Colour of Beauty | Call for Submissions!

Note: This post was originally published by Christina Jung of Schema Magazine.

When all of us at Schema Magazine first heard about Work for All, the National Film Board's (NFB) initiative to raise awareness of racism in the workplace, it was an instantaneous love at first sight! We were was thrilled to jump on board and support NFB.

To make this partnership ever so memorable, Schema Magazine is partnering with the Museum of Vancouver's (MOV) upcoming fashion exhibit, Fox, Fluevog & Friends, and NFB's Work for All film series, to launch a community event and screening for Colour of Beauty, a short film about the lack of visibility diversity and minority representation in the fashion industry. This event takes place at 7pm on May 16th at the Museum of Vancouver.

With modeling agencies pining over models like Naomi Campbell, who is considered as the epitome of a "white model dipped in chocolate," it stands to reason that there a serious lack of diversity within fashion. But we're dying to hear what you think.

Have you or someone you know struggled to be a model, agent or designer because of ethnicity or race? How does the fashion industry or advertising shape mainstream attitudes around the "colour of beauty?"

Send us your stories, perspectives, experiences and thoughts about how race plays a role in fashion, beauty and identity. All submissions will get published on SchemaMag.ca, and the top three submissions will be showcased on NFB's website and read at the panel discussion on May 16th.

This is an opportunity for everyone involved in the fashion industry, both producers and consumers, to participate in a rare and exciting discussion featuring a panel of industry professionals, artists and policymakers.

Here are some basic submission guidelines to help you:

Think outside the page: Express yourself in anyway your heart desires. It doesn't have to be written. Photo essays, videos, or even poetry - be creative!

Tell us your story: Just tell us your story as you would tell a friend. Entertain and inform us through your story.

For writers: If you'd like to express your experiences through writing, please keep it between 500 to 1500 words. We love hearing and seeing things through new perspectives, so if you have more than story, we encourage you to send them separately.

Introduce yourself: We enjoy meeting new people. Please include a brief biographical note with your story to help us get to know you.
Please send your submissions, proposals, greetings, ideas and pitches directly to submit[at]schemamag.ca

SUBMISSIONS ARE DUE FRIDAY MAY 14, 2010. More information about the upcoming event will be released shortly.

Jumping for Jelly Flats!

My mother is fond of saying that she's always right. Unfortunately she has an annoying habit of being right about that. Over the years we have fought tooth-and-nail battles over clothes, ranging from items like furry vests, khakis, denim jackets, and of course, jelly sandals. As you can see from this list, my mother was right about all these things being in fashion at some point or another - she was just usually off by a few years. I actually did secretly love my jelly sandals as a child, since they reminded me of the forbidden jelly candies I couldn't eat and they were shiny so of course I loved them, but for some forgotten principle I had to act like I hated them. Sorry Mom, but again you were right.

Now here we are in the year 2010 and jelly sandals are back in a big way! It's not surprising considering how comfortable and versatile they can be, plus anything shiny and cute always twitches that soft spot in us young-at-heart modern women!
This time around, jellies are available in a wide variety of styles, but the ones I'm most into at the moment are jelly flats, which are a natural pairing of cuteness plus elegance!

Fred Flare Dazzling jelly ballet flats, $58

These darling ballet flats are both sparkly, shiny, and cute! Its simple design is offset by the multitude of teeny crystal studs and the clear color elongates the legs. It's almost too cute for anyone over 15, but paired with more grownup clothes, these flats would be perfect for the everyday.

Fred Flare Darling bow jelly flats, $42

With their fire-engine red color, and perky bow, what's not to love about these flats? These would look great paired with some navy high-waisted shorts and a striped top for a nautical feel; or how about a dainty white summer dress?

Stuart Weitzman 'Pellets' jelly flats, $148.17 via Nordstrom

If you're willing to splurge on this trend, then I would recommend these understated gold flats from Stuart Weitzman. Unlike the first two pairs, these flats have a more matte finish and come in either gold or black. To add that hint of luxury, these flats feature a crown of gold metallic baubles on the toe and have leather insoles.

Will you be investing in some jelly flats this summer?

Lust of the Week: East coast summer style via Lorick

Ever experienced those hot, muggy summer days where the sun spills out for days and the air is so thick and moist you could cut it like a cake and eat it? We don't get many of those on the West Coast, but I have experienced major heat before and weather like that calls for loose, breezy clothes that allow for air circulation. This summer and spring, I am feeling light, casual, tones and a loose, draped silhouette to my wardrobe. Looking at this lookbook photo from Lorick, I immediately feel transported to my vision of hot afternoons in the city, sipping lemonade at a street side cafe out of a icy tall glass, beaded with drops of water. Doesn't this look just whisper insistently of sophistication and class? So simple, so effortless. It's a call for minimalist chic that has me clamoring to answer. Real ladies don't sweat, or pant, we glow.

It's Google for Shoes: MyShoes.com

JLo may have said love don't cost a thing, but give me a pair of drop-dead, ultra-coveted, sex in shoe form, pair of heels and I may have to ask JLo to reconsider her romantic mantra. Shoes make a woman feel sexy, confident, cute, powerful, pretty, and a whole crap load of other adjectives. What they never make you feel, is sad (although they can cause you pain).

Understanding this vital need, MyShoes.com seeks to make the quest for the next Loubies (or their inspired by versions) just that little bit easier. MyShoes.com is basically a search engine focused around shoes! Browse through a vast catalogue of shoe brands and retailers across the Internet by creating custom searches. There's a wide number of search options available: style, color, heel height, price, brands, and trends. Each result has images, descriptions, and links to various retailers. Best of all, MyShoes.com will also display available coupon codes to save you money! It's kinda like the new best friend you never had!

So how did MyShoes.com come into being? Well, Being High Maintenance, not Bitchy was able to snag an interview with Andrea Woroch, chief of communications for Myshoes.com to ask her some burning questions about just what it is that women see in a pair of heels:

So tell me, how was the idea for MyShoes.com born?

Searching for shoes on the Internet could be a bit overwhelming and we wanted something for ourselves that provided streamlined results echoing the style, feature, color and price range we envisioned in our minds. Our mission; to help women find the perfect pair of shoes at the best price from hundreds of styles – all according to personal style, and in a timely manner. By utilizing our company’s discount coupon site, PromotionalCodes.com, we were able to apply an innovative money-saving element with the coupon integration function. By applying available coupon codes to the final price instantly, women will know where to buy their perfect pair of shoes at the most affordable price quickly and easily.

The Internet is such a crowded place, what strategies did you utilize to get MyShoes noticed?

myShoes.com is the first and only shoe shopping engine that helps women find the perfect pair of shoes at the best price from hundreds of stores – all according to personal style, and for this reason, we have received a lot of positive attention. The unique and innovative site produces streamlined shoe results from hundreds of retailers and brands like Zappos, DSW, Nordstrom, Steve Madden, Shoes.com and many others, making it easy for women to find and compare options all in one place.

Providing such [a] high quality site has attracted many female shoppers and keeps them coming back for more!

Where would you like to take MyShoes in the next 5 years?

We want myShoes.com to be the first thought that comes to every woman’s mind whenever she thinks about shoes - - which we anticipate being a few hundred times per day (or is that just me?!)

What type of shoes would we find in your closet?

Since we are based in warm and sunny Santa Barbara, our closets are stacked [with] sandals – everything from gladiators to caged heels. Personally, I’ve lived in many weather climates so I have an endless array of styles. From New York to Colorado and now by the beach, I’ve had to switch up my footwear needs. Some of my favorites include a pair of BCBG suede ankle booties that I scored for next to nothing at DSW, knee high boots in black with a wedge heel from Nordstrom and nude peep-toe pumps from Guess.

Why do you think women love shoes so much?

Did you know that shoes once represented a woman’s status in society? High heels symbolized high class, so perhaps this is where our passion for shoes began.

Enough history though. Let’s get real; shoes make a girl’s heart pump! We can express our style and mood with every different shoe and style we wear. As soon as we slip on a hot pair of heels, we feel beautiful and strut with confidence. Most importantly though, shoes won’t make you cry, leave you waiting by the phone for hours or make you look fat!

(Wow am I hearing an echoing sentiment here? A girl after my own heart!)

Who are your favorite shoe designers?

This is a tough one…where do I begin!? It really depends on the style of shoe that I’m looking for – flat, pump, sandals, boots…I have a favorite for each of these!

  • Bernardo has amazing flat sandals that are perfect for days spent shopping or meeting up with friends for lunch. For a little more height, Pour La Victoire’s sultry caged and gladiator styles will spice up spring and summer looks.
  • Jessica Simpson and Steve Madden are my go-to designers for pumps. Whether a classic look or something with a little more oomph like a peep-toe, animal print or frill detail, you can be sure to find a pair that fits your style
  • Nine West has a great selection of flats that are super comfy. For boots…well, I continue to lust over Frye.

What shoe wear trends do you feel are hot for 2010?

Nude shoes are spring and summer’s top trend. The barely-there color creates the impression of long, lean legs that women are going ga-ga over. Other top trends are bright suedes, peep-toe booties and men's inspired oxfords which can be worn as flats or heels for a more feminine touch. Boots layered with fur, suede and sultry details like exposed zippers, laces & studs will be all the rage this fall and winter. With the introduction of men’s inspired oxfords this spring, we anticipate the boy-meets-girl styles to influence even more fashion designers.

It's the little things that cause a storm inside of me

Cardigan: Costa Blanca
Satin dress: The Barefoot Contessa
Shoes: Spring

How was everyone's weekend? Mine was quite relaxing, spending time with various friends, eating, shopping, and watching the Canucks MURDER the Chicago Blackhawks in game 1. Hope this trend continues guys!! The title of this post I'm sad to say, comes from a recent song that's been stuck in my head lately: Shiver by Shawn Desman. I hate to say it, but it's pretty catchy! You can join my madness by listening to the video here. The dancing in the video is pretty slick too.

In other news I have to share my HUGE thanks to fellow bloggers Bunnie and Elisse for giving me these awesome blog awards!

As part of these awards, I have to list 7 things about me. Please forgive me if you've already heard some of these before - there are only so many things that are interesting about me!
