Happy World Water Day with S'well Water Bottles

Here are some crazy facts about bottled water:
  • 200 billion plastic bottles are consumed each year worldwide.
  • 20% of this 200 billion is recycled
  • 1.5 billion barrels of oil is used every year in the US alone producing plastic water bottles.  That's enough to run 100,000 cars for a year
Knowing these things makes it hard to justify buying that expensive bottled water on an everyday basis.  We in North America take water for granted, but we don't have to.  Our purchasing power can have an impact.  Today is World Water Day and on today you have a chance to make a conscious decision.  Save the planet: reduce, reuse, recycle!

Instead of buying bottle water, bring your own water bottle.  Today I'm featuring steel water bottle maker, S'well.  A S'well bottle is designed to keep your hots hot, and your colds cold and their bottles come in a rainbow of colours.  The price of $40 a bottle, is pretty steep at first until you add up what you would have spent before buying bottled water!  Also, S'well donates 10% of their sales profit to Water Aid, an organization that aids developing communities in securing a reliable water supply.  The idea is that if the people of these communities, particularly women, don't have to spend hours everyday collecting water, then they can spend more time improving their lives with education.  It's a noble cause with real results that I can definitely get behind!

I hardly ever drink from bottled water anymore. If I do, I almost always recycle. Every little bit helps right?! :)

This is an excellent reminder. I try to find cans when I get an urge for a diet lime coke. As for water, my town has great water, so I bring it from home to drink at work. I do use a plastic gallon container, but I reuse it many times over.

On the wingman thing, I think you're right--I'm just scarred by those crazy girls. And I should point out it was the friends who got upset, not the girls I talked to. I think they were just trying match up their girlfriends. Story of my life--girls' friends and mothers always liked me more than the girls themselves. LOL! I need to add that as a "PS" to the post.

PS - I don't know if I have a knack for being in the wrong place, but odd things seem to happen around me fairly often. Can I get away with blaming the stars instead of myself??? I didn't think so. =)

Those are some pretty chic bottles! I usually drink tap water at home and reuse plastic bottles if I have to take one with me. We get bottled water at work (for free), but I believe the crates of empty plastic are cleaned and reused.
