Throw your soul through every open door

Grey tank: Habit of Urban
Boyfriend cardigan: Urban Outfitters
Skirt: Forever 21
Socks: Urban Outfitters

Here's a rare shot of me in glasses!  This photo was taken when I was in the midst of my seasonal allergies and my eyes were so dry I couldn't even wear my contacts!  Trust me, I may look ok in my glasses here, but normally I think I look like a dork in them!

Self-perception is such a funny, twisted thing.  Even celebs have their bits that they wish they could hide in a dark corner.  Growing up, I was very self-conscious of myself.  All I wanted to do was disappear into the wallpaper and I was very good at it - I don't think hardly anyone knew me!  Or, if they did, they thought I was just a bookworm.  I'm not sure how I got over my insecurities... actually, they definitely still haunt me anytime a waif-ish Asian, or a tall blond goddess walks by.  I definitely feel it everytime that Mr. Artist pinches me for fun - why?! oh why?! - but I try to shake it off.  If it helps anyone out there who also feels down on themselves sometimes, here's my strategy for dealing with it:  you might as well get over yourself for not being the hottest person out there.  Similar to intelligence, you're never going to be the best, but you're not the worst either.  Instead of concentrating on what you hate, concentrate on what you like about yourself.  For example, here's a few things I hate on myself for:
  • being short
  • tummy
  • big thighs
  • small boobs
  • weird (to me) nose
Now, to get over that, I try to think of more things that good about me:
  • shortness = cuteness. Just gotta work it
  • good skin
  • my mom's pretty eyes
  • a lot of guys like a bit of curve!
  • never having saggy boobs
  • shiny, soft hair
  • a big laugh
Another thing that helps boost my confidence, is wearing a good outfit! The cheery print of this skirt paired with this super-soft tank top made me feel super girly and fun.  It can definitely take a long time to feel better about yourself, but it's like learning an instrument or a new sport: practice does make perfect!

Hmmm, self-perception (and perception in general) really must be a strange thing. I don't agree with any of your con's and could easily add to the list of pro's. It's interesting to read your self-perceptions and then think of all the guys I've met who suck in their guts, adjust their comb-overs, and strut down the street in a way that shouts, "Damn I look good!" LOL!! But good for them, right?

The lesson to love yourself and know that you're beautiful is the #1 lesson to be learned, IMO. Without this, you can't love others. It's a lesson I re-enforce in myself everyday.

And agreed, beautiful clothes and jewelry help :) Great post, following you.

J I love that shot of you in your glasses. You look super cute (as usual) but it's nice to see a different look too. it's funny how our minds play games on us. Everyone has their "blah" days and we all have areas we're more self-conscious of. I think whenever I feel like that I try to treat myself to something to lift my spirits.

Being a fellow shortie, i totally hear you. I can't help but feel envious of those leggy gals who can pull off certain long maxi dresses or never have to hem anything. but you are right - many guys LOVE short girls, and the cuteness factor can definitely be turned up and worked!!

Aww...i think it's an Asian thing to have a relatively flat chest, like me. But I've grown to not mind anymore. I'm pretty comfortable with my figure and a little self conscious when I wear something like a swimsuit because I don't like my thighs. And I don't exercise either. So I guess I can't complain...

TOTALLY agree...great outfit that you feel confident in is all the self esteem I need.
Laughing, because I always tell myself I am better off w having small boobs BECAUSE they will never sag...so far, TRUE.
You look adorable in glasses:)

Here through my friend Jenny's (Jennifer Fabulous) blog.

Almost all of my readers are female. I can promise you I haven't talked to a girl or woman yet who is completely happy with her appearance, regardless of how she looks (we've had TONS of conversations about this over the years). It's ingrained by society and perpetuated by the media.

The bottom line is that every woman is beautiful; tall/short, big boobs/small boobs, thin/curvy. How boring it would be if everyone looked the same!

You look so CUTE in this photo!!! Completely adorable. Such a lovely post to match. We all have insecurities and to share them in such a public forum isn't easy. Thanks for opening up!

Your post is so cute. :) I love that you can pick out some good things about yourself because I'm sure there are a lot! :) I have small boobs too. BOO. But a good thing about that is... you don't look like a hoochie when you wear low or revealing clothes!
