What if I change for you, then will you see me, still with you?

Leopard print top: H&M
Leggings: Zara
Fur poncho: vintage
Ring: Aldo (turquoise), Engineering Iron ring (pinky)
Bracelets: Claires (white), gifted from China (black)

HOT PRICES! I didn't notice this blaring piece of advertisement in my trash can until I was editing this photo later.  I wonder what it was selling?

Normally I eschew wear my engineering ring, but this outfit called for some over accessorizing, so I put it on.  I've always been kinda conflicted about wearing my engineering ring.  It's something every engineer is given when they graduate in Canada as part of a secret induction ceremony.  We take an ethics oath and the ring is given to us to symbolize our duty to our industry.  When we retire, we're supposed to return it, to pass on to the next generation. As engineers, we are supposed to always wear the ring and many do as a sign of pride, but I've taken to rarely wearing mine.

Perhaps it's because I always felt a bit alienated as an Engineer; often I felt out of place and dismissed because people presumed they were more intelligent and harder working than me for various reasons I won't go into at the moment, but I'm sure you can guess.  Maybe I wasn't top of my class, but I was far from the bottom too and unlike some people I don't need to name, I can actually function socially outside my geek circle.  I worked my ass off for my degree and I treasure what that hard work taught me in both knowledge and life lessons.  I guess I've always felt that you don't need to show off your pride for people to know about it.  You don't need to tell someone you're intelligent, or accomplished, you only need to live it and people will pick up on that.

In photo news, I think I've begun to understand how lighting works and what to adjust for what instance.  The type of photos I really enjoy are the ones where innocuous things come to life to describe a moment. Anyways, here are some recent shots I've taken...

Oh please, how could a pretty little girl like you be smart!!!

**cough*gag** Forgive me a moment while I recover from a self-induced bile surge.

I don't know (or care) if it's arrogance or insecurity that causes people to be such jerks, but it really pisses me off. 95% of the time I'm quiet, polite, etc. The other 5% I really enjoy being a jerk to people who are condescending, dismissive, and try to marginalize others. It's probably a side-effect of being the youngest of 6 kids. But whatever the cause, it's fun!!!

You're pictures are wonderful--the tarts have me considering skipping dinner and going straight to dessert.

Have a nice weekend MizzJ!

Great photos! I like the one of the piano keys!

Bear with me, friend, as I am making my way back into the blog world. I think in terms on the wearing of the engineering ring, I think it's ok if you choose not to wear it. Some value the symbol it represents, but the work you produce can be seen just as valuable and symbolic. Plus you are so well-rounded in other areas of your life, your hard work ethic would naturally permeate into those areas as well. In other words, the attitude and values you put into school, are easily transferred to the rest of your Life.

Did that all make sense? (Ergo, a clear sign I'm just getting back into blogging :P)

I had no idea engineers actually got a specific ring. I can only imagine the prejudices you'd face, much like the weird looks I get whenever I tell people I wrote my dissertation on artificial intelligence. I never went into the profession though, but I'm sure I'd be frustrated if I had stayed in a field primarily dominated by male geeks with big egos, who are so far removed from reality.

Love your outfit by the way. The fur poncho is fab! And your pictures are impressive. Really like the one of the mini tarts.

i quite like the idea of the engineering ring, in theory. but there seem to be so many rules that i'd soon get tired with them. i agree, people should know that you're dedicated from your personality rather than a bit of metal...

Your entire outfit is head to toe perfection. Every aspect of it works perfectly!
My dad is an engineer - I never knew about the ring though! I think that a with everything in life, wearing the ring is your choice. It doesn't define you one way or another, though it is absolutely something to be proud about, because you worked extremely hard for this.
Also, your photography is BEAUTIFUL. I'm going to have to come to you for advice - I haven't experimented with my dSLR as much as I want to, and have been doing way too much on the auto focus. You're doing a BEAUTIFUL job with it all :)

you look great! love the outfit. That's kind of neat about the engineering ring. I've never heard of anything like that before!

And girlfriend - I'm sure I've been in the same boat as you. I'm an executive at my company but I get looked down upon as not being smart enough or because I got the job because of some "other" reason, you know what I mean. Sometimes people suck but I feel it's their insecurities talking and they have to live with it, not us! :)

me and my sisters (all 3 gals) grad in engineering (lol coz i think its easy to pass notes around)
and my hubs family, he and his 2 sisters all grad in law (also claim to using same notes lol)
only me and hub did not proceed a career of our education (we're both in finance industry)
i think, everyone can be anything, because we have to be fuel by our passion and interest, it makes the day happier :)
