I'm giving in. I usually try not to do posts that everyone and their grandma are doing on their blog, but really this resolutions post is more for me, than it is for you. Obviously, generousness is not one of my resolutions.
From what I've read, a key factor to making goals stick, is by defining them properly. Since I'm a huge word nerd for concise, clear, definitions, of course my resolutions are going to try to follow this principle. To help, I'm enlisting the SMART criteria, which is a common technique for defining good goals.
For a goal to be SMART, it must be:
- Specific
- Measurable
- Attainable
- Relevant
- Timely
So, without further ado, here are my 2012 resolutions, hereby written in Internet stone to be held accountable and fully lamented celebrated by me in December over vodka shots egg nog.
Do less, better: this is a biggie. Anyone who knows me knows I seem to pack myself full of activities and sure it's fun doing them, but it also leaves me feeling rather tired and out of sorts, so this year I resolve to not beat myself up if I decide not to volunteer for something, or write a bunch of blog posts for everyday.
Become a better cook: I have a bunch of cookbooks, so I'd like to actually learn from them! Inspired by watching Julie & Julia, I want to try out a new recipe at least 1-2 times a week. I'm also going to post about my cooking adventures so stay tuned! The first cookbook we'll be tackling is "Noodles for 2" by Vicki Liley.
Exercise at least 3 times per week: I definitely notice a difference between how I feel when I am, and when I'm not, physically active, so I'd like to get to my fitness high point, where I was working out and doing yoga regularly. Crow pose, you are my goal!
365 challenge: Lately I've been feeling rather uninspired by the dark, wet Vancouver weather and haven't been taking hardly any outfit posts, so in order to reinvigorate my wardrobe, I took a hint from Indonesian blogger TigerLily of Two Thousand Things. For the past 2 years, she's challenged herself to never wear the same outfit twice and she's actually done it! Her style is amazing, so I recommend you check her out. I highly doubt I'll be able to do quite the same thing, but I'm challenging myself to at least document my style more by trying to take and post my daily outfits! I'll post up weekly recaps for you all here, but you can also check out the daily feed on Twitter!
I'd love to hear what your resolutions are for the new year and how you plan to stick to them, so please tell me in the comments!

You've taken on a lot, but I'm sure you can do it. I would have "failed" already! =)
My main goal for 2012 is to improve my work/life balance. I gave too much of myself to work last year. I'll plan days off and commit to leaving at a decent hour (unless it truly is an emergency).
Totally get you on the dark weather thing. But hey, sun will come soon.
LOL. I am also very SMRT :O) But you are so right about those goals. And I totally agree with the attainable thing. Why set yourself up for failure right?
Hope the new job is still going well. Take care!

you've already read my goals on my blog and how i plan to stick to them (esp the losing weight one) is to do small exercises and eat well. my 4min workout is short enough to make me feel guilty if i don't do it but had enough to make me feel like i accomplished something (and i'm already starting to see results!)
good luck on your goals; you can do it!
365 outfits! You're brave for taking on the challenge :)
Good luck!

I loved reading your resolutions. I really want to start doing some outfit pictures at some point this year as well. Yeah, we'll leave it vague like that:)

These are great goals to have for yourself. Definitely see tons of clarity and it's always nice to have goals that are clear and concise. It motivates you more than having a vague list. :)
Wheee...good luck, good luck with your resolution! I'm sooooo bad with keeping them, so I never make a list. I'm Queen of Procrastination when it comes to resolutions, LOL! I do wish you all the best in 2012 and for the Year of the Dragon as well!
I always try not to load up on a bunch of resolutions because that will almost always result in failure for me, so I have three this year: read my Bible everyday, exercise everyday and drink more water. I'm trying really hard to stick to the first to for the first 30 days since that will help form them into habits. I'm doing pretty well on the exercise front so far (I started a bit before the new year) - I just finished the 15 day mark today and I really am starting to feel like I need to do it in order for my day to be complete!

Great resolutions for this year!! I want to do the cooking thing too! It was part of my last year's resolutions, but I want this one to outshine the last!
I love your style and I know you'll be able to enable yourself to come up with many outfits. :D
great goals to set for the year! I think writing them down really helps to focus us and get us there, step by step. Love the one about the outfits - looking forward to seeing how you achieve it.
good on you for posting your resolutions on your blog like you said you would! now I can hold you accountable! I would love to exercise 3x per week but I've found it hard to do so. It was great with my old job because they offered lunchtime classes at the gym. So now, instead, I've opted for - just move, and be healthy. I've been eating a lot better lately and cutting out the junk, and I actually feel pretty good!
